Default magnitude of velocity of the ball?

Hi all, I really could use some help on this one. I've started by using the equation d=Vot + 1/2(-9.81)(t^2), and I'm not sure where to from there!

A ball is thrown upward from a platform 4.4 m high with a speed of 24 m/s at an angle of 38 o from the horizontal. What is the magnitude of its velocity when it hits the ground?

Resolve the initial vel v into horz component v cos theta which is unaffected by gravity and vertical component v sin theta which is affected by gravity. Treat the components as independent of each other, find their final values, and then add them as vectors to find the resultant.
This is a standard problem and can be found solved in many books and also in this forum. Search previous entries in kinematics.
